Today, I'm wrapping up this series on our new M120 site and the lessons we've been learning along the way. Yesterday I talked about the lessons learned from our mistakes.
As I wrap up this series, let me share some lessons I think we're learning that are making The Journey more of who God wants us to be because of our launch into multi-siting.
1. Creating a second site has caused us to be more God-dependent. We have sought Him, leaned on Him, and realize that anything good that happens is because of Him. We are dependent on Him for the volunteers, for the site, for the results, for the money to make it happen.
I often pray that God would do something so God-sized among us that we couldn't even attempt to take credit, and that it would deepen the faith of those at The Journey because of what He does.
2. It has forced us to be more effective with our systems. You just plain have to if you're going to be able to function across multiple sites.
3. It is broadening the leadership at The Journey. People are having to step up into more significant roles of leadership - both staff and volunteers. I'm so proud of a number of Journeyers who are really going next level in their ministries and leadership. We always need more (hint, hint), but it has been an absolutely good thing for us as a church.
4. It is re-igniting our original vision in people. It's reminding people of our need & privilege of inviting people into this relationship with Jesus. It's reminding people that it's not just about us.
5. It's making sure that we're never a church that driven solely by a personality. That's backwards thinking for how some view multi-site - and 100% video teaching from thee ONE communicator may do some of that, but how we're setting up our speaking, etc. actually will do the opposite I believe, which in the long run is a very good thing.
