This coming Sunday is one of the biggest Sunday's of the year. People will come to your church that have never been there before, some who have never been in church before. Some peopel will come back to your church just like they did last Easter and maybe Christmas. On a typical Easter we have about 35% more people than our average attedance for the rest of the month.
That can make you want to pull out all the stops. You SHOULD do all that you can to make people welcome, to explain things, to have your best greeters in place, to have extra kids staff ready, and to pray through and deliver a great message.
But, the Easter message can easily get lost in the process. As a communicator, you want to be relevant, engaging, effective. So, you work hard on creating a theme for the day, on bringing in illustrations that connect, on getting people to laugh and unfold their arms. Just make sure that you remember that the resurrection is what matters!!
Be engaging, be funny, but then let the Easter story be told, and let God's Spirit penetrate hearts. Prepare, be ready, know your message, just make sure that Jesus is the focus, not your story or your great joke (or the video or special song either).
