I'm in a series about some things you might not know about The Journey. Here's another one:
We don’t pass an offering plate, nor do we collect dues. That’s different than a lot of people’s church experience. We’ve heard from so many people who had a bad experience with church and money. Sometimes it’s the churches fault, and sometimes it’s because we hold too tightly to our money. We have offering boxes at the back of the auditorium that people can put their money or check in if they want.
But, what you also might not know is what the offering goes to. The offerings pay our staff salaries and health insurance, our building rent and upkeep, our office supplies, our Journey Kids and Teens curriculum and supplies and the people who staff them. They also pay our utilities, our support of other ministries like Verve Church, it goes to helping other churches start, and various projects in our local community through our Networks. In other words, the offerings go to everything we do at The Journey AND, we don’t have outside support or other organizations that are funding us. We’re directly dependent on Journeyers for the needs of the church. You also might not know that our staff (in our staff covenant) are asked to give back at least 10% of their salary right back into the offerings of The Journey. We want to lead the way in giving.
