We've walked through some tragedy over the past week at The Journey. In the midst of loss and pain, we often don't know what to say. We can end up avoiding people or finding other things to do, but there is an art of being there that's important. You don't have to have all the right things to say, or even a few right things to say - just being present, just being there is needed. The truth is, there aren't a lot of answers. I'm reminded of Job's friends in the Old Testament. After he lost everything, including all his income and all his children - he had 3 friends that just came and sat with him . . . for 7 days! It was only when they opened their mouths, that they weren't helpful.
Sometimes, we just need to be there. No words. No inspirational thoughts. Just being there.
